Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors can be exhausting, but OCD responds very well to the right treatment.

What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?

OCD is more than just being particular or liking things a certain way. It involves intrusive, unwanted thoughts or fears that feel impossible to ignore, and repetitive behaviors or rituals that feel necessary to relieve the distress they cause. Even when you know logically that the thoughts aren’t rational, stopping can feel completely out of your control. OCD can be exhausting, consuming hours of your day and making it hard to focus on the things that matter most to you.

How we treat it

OCD responds well to a combination of therapy and medication. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, specifically exposure and response prevention, helps you confront fears without engaging in compulsions. SSRIs can help reduce the intensity of obsessive thoughts and make the therapeutic work more manageable.

In Oregon, I see patients both in-person in Portland and statewide through telehealth.

I work in close collaboration with Seva Mental Health, who supports much of my administrative work, though I am an independent provider and a separate entity from Seva.
